Copyright Policy
DMCA notices and counter-notices.
Effective June 8, 2026
Fairways respects intellectual property and expects our users to do the same. If you believe that content on Fairways infringes a copyright you own or are authorized to enforce, you can submit a takedown notice under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act ("DMCA"), 17 U.S.C. § 512. We will respond to properly submitted notices and remove infringing content promptly.
How to file a copyright complaint
To be effective under the DMCA, your written notice must include all of the following:
- A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner, or a person authorized to act on their behalf.
- Identification of the copyrighted work you claim has been infringed (or a representative list if multiple works are involved).
- Identification of the material on Fairways you claim is infringing, with enough detail for us to locate it. The most helpful identifiers are a direct screenshot, the username of the account that uploaded it, and (if you have it) the course name the content is attached to.
- Your contact information: full name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
- A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the use of the material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or are authorized to act on behalf of the owner.

Notices that do not include all of the elements above may not be effective. We may forward a copy of your notice (including your contact information) to the user who uploaded the material.
Counter-notifications
If you believe content of yours was removed by mistake or misidentification, you can submit a counter-notification. Send it to the same address above. A counter-notification must include:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the material that was removed and the location where it appeared before it was removed.
- A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed as a result of mistake or misidentification.
- Your full name, mailing address, telephone number, and a statement that you consent to the jurisdiction of the U.S. federal district court for the judicial district in which you reside (or, if outside the U.S., for any district in which Fairways may be found), and that you will accept service of process from the person who submitted the original notice, or their agent.
If we receive a valid counter-notification, we'll forward it to the original complainant. Unless the complainant files an action seeking a court order against you within 10 business days, we may restore the removed content.
Repeat infringer policy
Fairways will, in appropriate circumstances, terminate the accounts of users who are determined to be repeat infringers. We make this determination based on the totality of the circumstances, which may include the number and severity of valid DMCA notices we receive about a user's content. Termination can include removal of all content the user has uploaded and a permanent ban from the platform.
Knowingly false claims
Under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f), any person who knowingly materially misrepresents that material is infringing, or that material was removed by mistake, may be liable for damages. Please don't send a notice unless you genuinely believe in good faith that the material infringes your rights.
